Today I am featuring bead and jewelry related blogs.
I love making jewelry... and even with the house being listed...
the studio space will be the last to be packed up.
I just feel better if I am able to go out and try to make something...

and so...
here is a little inspiration for all you creatives:

blazing sun
like the ass-crack of hades... beating down
drowning us in sunlight
til we retreat into the dark recesses
yearning for shade
wondering why we wished for this heat all winter long
in our pajamas
tucked under old quilts
sitting by the fire
which reminds us of this sun
this never-ending sun
and then
just when you were about to give up
the clouds open up
rain coming down
washing away the heat
the grime
the dust of this desert
and we begin anew

(all the photos in the collage above; were taken over the course of this month with my iPhone)

little feet running
and hopping up on one foot
to look in my eyes

(this handsome roadrunner has been flirting with me the past few days...
looking in my window... then scampering off)

and now at long last
and as the moon shines brightly
I send my hopes up

(this is a long exposure, taken last night.
And in other news... the house is now listed for sale)

So many uses!

paint boxes or mini art kits

handmade books and photo albums

chargers

amps

sculptures

and here are some more links:

for the weekend

.....feeling a little "prickly" at the moment.
I'm hot, I'm tired.... I have a ton of work to do...  people are pissing me off... you know how it goes. And so I sit... and try to calm down.
Fortunately, I don't have many days like this... and it started off well enough... so I'm not sure at what point it all fell apart for me... but there it is.

And so I acknowledge that life ... does in fact.... suck on occasion.
And trust that tomorrow will be better... things will get done... life will go on..... and it will be OK.

And so I edit some photos.
These are all photos that I took today.
We were all running errands... and I got to take some shots out the window as we were driving around. The top photo was at Panera... where we had an awesome late lunch...
and the bottom 2 shots I took out the window as we were driving on the westside of ABQ at sunset. The one shows a fabulous sun-dog near the Sandia Mountains... and the other is sunset near Ladera Golf Course, with the volcanoes in the background.

today I am just posting a little smorgasbord of blogs...
just ones I like... and think are interesting...

The Bloggings of Mrs. Bertimus
Lost in Lymbo
Melusina
Karen Elaine
Suzanne Lewis

.

I worried for us
...the uncertainty of it
but now embrace it

so far

so I was going to write posts for the weekend... for Monday... for Tuesday... and for today... but then I thought... I'm already behind... I just need to catch up. And so... one BIG post it is.

It's been crazy busy.
I don't think... in all the years since posting on this blog *since Dec 2008* that I have missed posting like this ... other than when I've gone on a trip or something... and posted I was taking a few days off. I am sorry.
(the photo below shows our garage... which was packing and storing central)

Over the weekend... we were all working on the house. Packing up stuff... cleaning up stuff.
Working in the front yard.... which has had quite a transformation :)
And the painting people were here... finishing up what turned out to be a HUGE job... and it looks fabulous.
(photos below show the painting process... and the new paint in the dining area)

On Monday, it was crazy busy as we were moving what we had completely out of the bedrooms, in preparation for the carpet people who came (very) early on Tuesday am.

And now the carpet is all in.... and it is perfect.
(photos below show the old carpet... and the REALLY old carpet that was under a bookcase... and the new carpet)

Then today... I ran a bunch of errands... including (yet another) trip to Home Depot to get a few things... and now... the front yard is ALMOST done :) -- which is awesome.

Add to that... recovering from a nasty ant bite that made my foot swell and bruise and turn all yuck... and my usual lack of sleeping schedule... and you can understand some of the chaos.
Now. That said... . I do believe it is all winding down... and except for a ton of work in the back yard..... and a few misc chores... some touch up of the paint... some cutting of some new baseboard... and lots of cleaning... I think we are definitely winding down. Barring anything unforeseen... we should be officially listing the house for sale on Monday... or soon thereafter.

Jim is still looking for a full-time position... but I am thinking this may be a grand opportunity to do something completely different. He has always wanted to write... and this may be the chance for him to do that. At any rate... we are leaving doors/ windows/ minds... wide open. And I believe that good things will come to pass.

So. I will attempt to return everything here on this blog "back to your regular broadcasting"...
~see you all tomorrow ~

When I was young (elementary and into high school)-- I drew alot.
Like ... alot.
I loved it.
Over the years though... I didn't make time for it... and gradually, got away from it altogether.

This week; I've been part of a group of folks who joined
Dawn DeVries Sokol's DOODLE CAMP... which is an on-line week-long course
designed to encourage, give you some skills (through blog posts, videos and prompts)...
and get you going on your own sketching journey...
It even includes making your own sketch book!

I've been petrified.
In fact, so nervous... that I didn't really start working on it until halfway through the week.
Oh... I watched the videos that she posted daily (awesome!)...
but just couldn't bring myself to make a mark on that paper.
But now that I have... LOOK OUT!

So... for today's edition of Friday Finds,
I am posting blogs that have to do with sketching.

These past few days have been really hectic... and a bit overwhelming.
And so... even though it's sorta late in the evening... I am having a cuppa coffee.
Which got me thinking... of ways to recycle coffee grounds.

Scrub your hands of odors: Rub a scoop of grounds between palms as an exfoliant to remove dead skin and help eliminate smells from foods like fish and garlic.

Deodorize your fridge: Place a bowl of dry grounds in your refrigerator or freezer to neutralize odors left by stale or spoiled food.
Also works on cutting boards and counters.

Clean up the grease: Place a few teaspoons of grounds on a thin cleaning rag and use to scour away grease and grime.
Finish with a thorough rinsing.

Fix scratches on your furniture: Dip a cotton swab into steeped grounds and dab on scratches in dark wood furniture to minimize them. Just test in an inconspicuous area first.

Contain ashes: Sprinkle damp grounds on fireplace ashes to cut down on airborne dust as you sweep them up.

Repel bugs:: Mound grounds into a ring to create a protective border around plants that will ward off ants and slugs.
Used grounds are said to repel snails and slugs, so sprinkle them in problem areas.

Catch Cockroaches: Fill a can or jar with an inch or two of moistened coffee grounds, then line the container's neck with extra-sticky double-sided tape. The scent will draw the roaches into the trap.

Make your hydrangeas bluer: Work grounds into the soil at the base of mophead hydrangeas to increase the acidity level. This helps the shrubs absorb aluminum, which you can add to the soil to keep the flowers a vibrant blue.

In the garden: due to the high acidic content, coffee grounds are perfect fertilizer for acid loving plants such as tomatoes, carrots, roses, rhododendrons and azaleas.

Fortify your plants: Give seedlings a nitrogen boost by stirring grounds into soil or a watering can.

Perk up your pedicure… soak your feet in coffee grounds and water. Freshens the skin and helps remove stains, etc.  Both coffee and tea are loaded with beneficial properties that sooth irritated skin and brighten a dull, tired winter complexion. For an instant pick-me-up, combine used coffee grounds with honey or mashed avocado, and apply to your face in slow, circular motions like a face scrub. Grounds will act as a gentle exfoliant, buffing off dead skin cells while the caffeine perks up tired skin. Also good; is a body scrub made of coffee grounds, coconut oil, and a little brown sugar. Gently massage it on in the shower, rinse, be soft.

Easter Egg dye: sure they won't be  pink or blue, but they will be a dyed a lovely shade of brown.

Fabric and paper dye

Deodorize your shoes: dried grounds help to deodorize your stinky shoes.
Also, grounds are said to help shine your black shoes!

Pet grooming: Mix coffee grounds with water and you have a nice grooming solution that leaves Fido’s hair shining bright. Also helps to kill fleas!

Cat repellent: Neighborhood cats using your garden as a private bathroom?
Coffee grounds can help keep them away (and of course, fertilize the garden too).

whoa!

for the weekend

"Everything changed the day she realized there was exactly enough time
for what was important in her life."
--- Brian Andreas, "Storypeople"

When I quit working full time back in 2003... I set  myself upon a journey.
I was home-schooling the kids... maintaining the house... and actually getting some regular sleep... perhaps for the first time in years.

I also started clearing/ cleaning out.

I started with toys and such the kids had outgrown on Ebay in 1998; but once I was home more... I kicked it up a notch... selling stuff I had made as well.... things we had collected... etc.

In 2005 or 2006... I started listing on Freecycle.Org and Craigslist.com; and it quickly became my goal to give away an item for every day of the year... something I am still doing today.

We have paired down... alot. And yet; with our impending move... it seems like there is still so much stuff! Perhaps not so; compared to some people... but certainly more than I feel comfortable hanging on to.
These past few days... I have been packing books. Between us all... I think we have around 30-35 boxes of books. Now granted, we have very little furniture, not much in the way of household stuff... but lots of craft supplies... and whoa... books. Alot of which... I haven't even read yet.

And I got to thinking... what is it (we/I) are making time for?
I am not a hoarder... not by any stretch. But I know alot of them... and my family is full of them.
These past years have been a lesson in what do I really need... what do I really want.
And I've made great progress towards that end... but looking at our stack of book boxes... makes me realize there is still much to be done.
It's a process.

Whenever I think about making a purchase these days... foremost in my mind is always... do I really need it... do I really want it... do I have room for it... which I think is a good thing.
Minimizing my "footprint"... making room for things that are really important to me... being able to use what I have... being content.

For so long... I think ... and I think alot of people do this... I was trying to find contentment in stuff. Now... it's in the experience :)

"Learning to really live the difference between need and want is part of contentment."

Yesterday was July4th... our nation's birthday... and it got me thinking.
I didn't want to do a standard "patriotic themed" post... and frankly, I don't have many blogs on my reading list that are strictly of a patriotic theme...
But what is America anyway?
Well... if you ask my 7th grade History Teacher (Nods to the wonderful Mr. Currin)
It is a melting pot... an amalgamation...
a vast "stew" of all kinds of people from all over.
And just like the bee in my photo above... no two people in it are alike.

And so, for today's Friday Finds...
I am featuring a variety of blogs.
All different... all unique...
and all celebrating the individual.

Be Your Own Beloved
Suki Healing Arts
Hannah Marcotti
Sacred Spirituality
Kind Over Matter
The Spirit that Moves Me
A Beautiful Mess
Chickadee Road
Honey and Jam

and just for giggles:

Music has saved my life... on more than one occasion.
I love all kinds of music... and feel horribly nostalgic every time I see a record... or a record player... and the like.

And so... I thought I would feature some cool things
you can do with old records today.
(Course, my number one thing to do with old records... is PLAY them!)

What I have done for today's post...
is gathered a bunch of photos in a collage;
just to give you a feel for what all can be made:

clocks, bracelets, lamp shades...
pendants, coasters, organizers...
cupcake stands, purses... guitar picks...
so many ideas!

And here is a local artist and friend of mine;
Paula Manning-Lewis.
Among her many talents... is a knack for painting lovely designs
on old records.

You can see more about her and her work: HERE
